MS/MBA Modernization Faculty
Edward D. Arnheiter, Ph.D.
Associate Professor, Lally School of Management and Technology,
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Hartford Campus
Dr. Arnheiter is an affiliated faculty member in Decision
Sciences and Engineering Systems and serves as the
Associate Director of the Center for Lean Studies at the
Lally School. Prior to starting his academic career, Dr.
Arnheiter spent eleven years in industry as an operations
management practitioner in both the defense sector and
in consumer products manufacturing. Dr. Arnheiter’s
publications have appeared in The Quality Management
Journal, The TQM Magazine, and The Journal of
Manufacturing Technology Management. He has also
published case studies on lean management through the
Richard Ivey School of Business and the European Case Clearing House.
John Maleyeff, Ph.D.
Professor, Lally School of Management and Technology,
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Hartford Campus
Dr. Maleyeff's primary focus in recent years has been
the application of Lean principles to service organizations. Dr. Maleyeff’s publications have appeared
in Quality Engineering, International Journal of Educational
Management, Journal of Management in Engineering, and
Customer Relationship Management. He has previously served as a member of the technical staff at the RCA
David Sarnoff Research Center and as a visiting quality
consultant at LEGO Engineering A/S. Dr. Maleyeff is an
affiliated faculty member in Decision Sciences and
Engineering Systems.
Rena Mears
Partner, Deloitte & Touche, Security Services
Rena Mears is a partner with Deloitte & Touche LLP. She leads the Global Service Line Leader of the Deloitte Privacy & Data Protection Team and the Northern Pacific Regional leader for Deloitte Security Services. She is an internationally recognized expert in security and privacy. Rena has more than 20 years of experience in security strategy and program design, enterprise security architecture (ESA), and secure infrastructure implementation. She has authored articles on wireless technology, customer and employee privacy and security in the enterprise. She is a CPA, CISSP and CISA.
Gina Colarelli O’Connor
, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Marketing at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Lally School of Management and Technology and Academic Director of the Radical Innovation Research Program
Gina Colarelli O'Connor has served as the Director of the Lally School’s MBA/MS programs, Associate Director of the Severino Center for Technology Entrepreneurship, and currently serves as Director of the Executive MBA program at RPI. Professor O'Connor's teaching and research interests lie at the intersection of Corporate Entrepreneurship and Radical Innovation, Marketing, and Commercialization of Advanced Technology. The majority of her research efforts focus on how firms link advanced technology development to market opportunities. She has published more than 30 articles in refereed journals and books. Three of her papers have won the Best paper of the year award at the Journal of Product Innovation Management. She is co-author of the book Radical Innovation, How Mature Firms Can Outsmart Upstarts, published by HBS Press in 2000, and is first author of Grabbing Lightning: Building a Capability for Breakthrough Innovation, published in 2008 by Jossey-Bass.
Lois Peters, Ph.D.
Associate Professor, Lally School of Management Technology, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), New York, and a Principal Investigator at the RPI NSF sponsored Nanoscale Engineering Research Center
In addition to organizing three international conferences related to the management of technology and innovation, Peters has been an invited visiting professor at the Max-Planck-Institute für Gessellschaftsforschung and an invited speaker in Japan, the OECD, European Community (EC), Latin America, and Thailand among other places. She is co author of Radical Innovation: How mature companies can outsmart upstarts, Harvard Business Press, 2000 and Grabbing Lightning: Building a Breakthrough Capability for Breakthrough Innovation, Jossey Bass, 2008.
David Stec
Educator, Department of Engineering and Science,
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Hartford Campus
David Stec is an expert on Lean operations management, and internationally recognized for his research in supply chain management. David's professional career includes over 15 years experience in the aerospace industry for Boeing, the Wyman-Gordon Company, and Pratt & Whitney. His work on supply chain management has been cited in numerous publications including: TED Magazine, Purchasing Magazine, Line56 Magazine, CIO Magazine, and Manufacturing News and is the co-author of Better Thinking, Better Results (January 2003), about The Wiremold Company's Lean transformation - a 2003 Shingo Prize winning publication. David received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, an M.S. in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and graduated from the Leaders for Manufacturing program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with an M.B.A. from the Sloan School of Management and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
James P. Stodder, Ph.D.
Associate Professor, Lally School of Management and Technology, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Hartford Campus
Dr. Stodder is coauthor of the award-winning book on
Lean, Better Thinking, Better Results: Using the Power of
Lean as a Total Business Solution. The book won the
2003 Shingo Prize for research in Lean Management.
Dr. Stodder’s research and teaching are primarily
focused in international economics. He has been a
consultant to a large number of service organizations,
mainly in the public sector. Dr. Stodder has many
published works and often serves as an expert speaker. He has presented papers in Montreal, Buenos Aires,
London, Cambridge, Lisbon, and Vienna.
Jonathan Story
Emeritus Professor of International Political Economy, INSEAD
Jonathan Story is Affiliate Faculty at ESMT. He was Professor for International Business Environment, as well as the Shell Fellow in Economic Transformation and Professor of International Political Economy at INSEAD until 2006. He has served as a consultant on European and world politiCS and markets, and has published numerous books and articles. Over the past years Professor Story has served as a consultant to governments and international corporations, banks and service companies, on European and world politics and markets. Jonathan is the author of many books, chapters in books and articles, and is a regular contributor to newspapers, such as The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, The Times and Le Monde. He writes regular analyses for the international press on international political and economic developments and has created a software program, now undergoing further development, to assist corporate boards craft their corporate strategies to local conditions. Professor Story regularly updates a country potential and risk case series on emerging markets.
Mark DeLuzio-Keynote speaker
President, Lean Horizons Consulting
Directly mentored by the originators of the Toyota Production System (TPS), Mark C. DeLuzio has directed the implementation of Lean principles and strategies globally for more than 15 years. In 2001, Mr. DeLuzio founded Lean Horizons Consulting and today leads a global management team overseeing the corporation’s geographic, industry and client services.
Prior to starting Lean Horizons Consulting, Mr. DeLuzio was Vice President and Corporate Officer of Danaher Corporation (NYSE: DHR), a pioneer in the Lean movement. Mr. DeLuzio led Danaher’s corporate-wide implementation of Lean and designed what is known today as the Danaher Business System (DBS). DBS aligns Lean efforts within a company’s business strategy at large.
Mr. DeLuzio began his Lean career in 1988 at Danaher's Jake Brake® division as Director of Operations for the Asian Business. After studying TPS under Taiichi Ohno’s influential Autonomous Study Group, he was instrumental in developing Jake's first zero-defect line for Toyota's Hino Motors. He has spent considerable time in Japan implementing TPS at various world-class companies and has had a successful career in finance.
Mr. DeLuzio holds two undergraduate degrees in business, an MBA in Operations Management and a Certificate in Production and Inventory Management.
