MANE-5100 Mechanical Engineering Foundations I (4000-level)

Course Description
A presentation of the principles of macroscopic transport useful in the analysis of mechanical engineering systems. The course covers the formulation of energy mass and momentum balances in continua; the development of mathematical models of heat conduction and mass diffusion in solids and of flow in ideal and Newtonian fluids. Models are ilustrated using examples from mechanical engineering. Particular attention throughout is devoted to the development of the ability to create realistic and reliable models.
