Rensselaer Graduate Engineering Programs Ranked Among the Nation’s Best by U.S. News & World Report

HARTFORD, CONN Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s graduate engineering programs are ranked among the best in the nation in the 2008 U.S. News & World Report guide to “America’s Best Graduate Schools,” that hit newsstands on April 3 (www.usnews.com). “These rankings are another validation of our ongoing transformation to a world-class technological research university with global reach and global impact,” said Rensselaer President Shirley Ann Jackson, Ph.D.

The Graduate School of Engineering is ranked 36th in the nation, up from 37th the previous year. Four engineering programs are ranked among the top 20, and 10 of Rensselaer’s 11 engineering programs are ranked among the top 30 in the country. Five programs saw their rankings improve from the previous year.
Engineering degree programs offered at Rensselaer’s Hartford Campus and Groton Site include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer and Systems Engineering, and Engineering Science. Graduate certificate program options include Computer Network Communications, Database Systems, Information Systems, and Software Engineering.

The increasing complexity of technology demands increasing sophistication in approaches to engineering and engineering education. Rensselaer meets these demands in its curricula and the experiences created in its classrooms. Students enjoy the body of knowledge gained from experienced peers in the classroom, the team-building exercises with these colleagues, and the application-based learning environment that enables them to challenge themselves at the highest level. Rensselaer’s engineering programs are designed to accommodate the evolving needs and time limitations of the professional engineer. The curricula helps students establish and build on a solid base of academic rigor and practical skills development.
