Rensselaer at Hartford's Summer Computer Camp Underway

HARTFORD, CONN – Rensselaer at Hartford's 26th season of Summer Computer Camp is underway, serving children from three Hartford area elementary schools: Barnard-Brown, Burr, and SAND. Thirty-five students are involved in the free program designed to increase computer literacy and research skills for the technologically driven world. The children interact creatively through hands-on computer training. The computer programs used during camp focus on the integration of language arts, reading, writing, and mathematics skills. This year's camp theme is health and fitness, which coincides with the “No Child Left Inside” program.

Campers learn to use the Internet to conduct research and create their own Web pages. They also explore the use of digital photography to enhance their reports. Weekly presentations include features on nutrition, physical education, and the Museum of Black Invention and Innovation presenting an interactive exhibit for the campers as part of their educational program. In addition, field trips are integrated with classroom learning and the theme for the camp, and this year, students have the opportunity to enjoy the Children's Museum of Connecticut, bowling, the Basketball Hall of Fame, The New England Air Museum, mini-golf, an IMAX film, and more.

Rensselaer at Hartford is grateful to numerous individuals and organizations for their support and commitment to the camp. This year's Summer Computer Camp is made possible by generous contributors including: the Aetna Foundation; the Bank of America Foundation; the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving; the Knox Foundation; the George A. and Grace L. Long Foundation; and the Wickersham Fund, Bank of America, Trustee. In addition, the Camp would like to acknowledge catering by Russell's Creative Global Cuisine.
