Newsmakers Rensselaer Professor Appointed to U.S. Technical Advisory Group and Named U.S. Technical Expert for the United Nations CEFACT HARTFORD, CONN – William J. Luddy, Jr., J.D., Professor, Lally School of Management and Technology, Rensselaer Hartford Campus, has been appointed to the U.S. Technical Advisory Group working on the development of a variety of international standards for international trade and business for e-Commerce and IT. In addition, Professor Luddy was named as a U.S. Technical Expert for the United Nations Center for Electronic Business and Trade Facilitation (UN/CEFACT) headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. UN/CEFACT appointed Luddy to its Legal Group in middle May and asked him specifically to work on a number of critical projects and to advise various technical groups (composed mostly of government and industry IT experts) on the international legal issues related to the international trade standards being developed. In late May, Professor Luddy attended the UN/CEFACT Annual Plenary Meetings in Geneva, Switzerland. He participated heavily in the Legal Group meetings as well as the Plenary sessions. The United Nations, through its CEFACT, supports activities dedicated to improving the ability of business, trade and administrative organizations, from developed, developing and transitional economies, to exchange products and relevant services effectively. Its principal focus is on facilitating national and international transactions through the simplification and harmonization of processes, procedures and information flows, and thereby contribute to the growth of global commerce.
