Congressman Larson to be Keynote Speaker at Gala Reception Celebrating Fifty Years of Rensselaer at Hartford

HARTFORD, CONN – A gala reception will be held at the Goodwin Hotel in Hartford on June 2, in celebration of Fifty Years of Rensselaer at Hartford educating working professionals. Congressman John Larson will be the keynote speaker, and Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, will preside over the event and award three individuals with prestigious commemorative medals. Official proclamations from the Governor, Legislature, and Mayor, recognizing the Fifty Year Celebration of Rensselaer at Hartford, will also be presented that evening.

U.S. Representative John B. Larson began serving in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1999, and is presently in his fourth term serving the people of Connecticut's First Congressional District. Congressman Larson (www.house.gov/larson/) is the co-chairman of the Digital Divide Caucus which is devoted to closing the technology gap that exists along socioeconomic, ethnic and geographical lines in the United States by advancing education technology and training for schools and communities.

The medals to be presented during the gala event feature the seal of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on one side and the 50th Anniversary logo of Rensselaer at Hartford on the other side. The medal recipients have all been strong supporters of Rensselaer who had great vision for the Hartford Campus and provided outstanding dedication and leadership to Rensselaer at Hartford. The three medal recipients are: John F. Cassidy, Jr., Ph.D. (Class of 1965), former member of the Rensselaer at Hartford Board of Trustees; Worth Loomis, President Emeritus of The Hartford Graduate Center (HGC) and former member of the HGC Board of Trustees; and Warren C. Stoker, Ph.D. (Class of 1933), founder and architect of Rensselaer's Hartford Campus, President Emeritus of The Hartford Graduate Center.
