Rensselaer Offers Coaching for Technical Managers Program

HARTFORD, CONN – Rensselaer at Hartford is offering a new professional development program, “Coaching for Technical Managers.” This intensive, three-day program is designed for new managers who have technical backgrounds and who now supervise technical staff. This course will be held February 15, 16, and 17 at the Rensselaer Hartford campus.

The program will focus on developing managers’ ability to motivate staff through the effective use of coaching skills. Prospective attendees include anyone in a management position supervising technical or expert staff, such as engineers, lawyers, accountants, physicians, research scientists, and designers.

For more information or to register for this course, please contact Carole Charles at (860) 548-2429 or e-mail: charlesc@ewp.rpi.edu. Or visit the Web at: http://web4.ewp.rpi.edu/hartford/.

In “Coaching for Technical Managers,” participants will discuss the components of an effective coaching relationship, from establishing rapport to rewarding excellent performance. Feedback will be provided using a multi-rater instrument specifically focused on coaching behaviors. A model designed to provide a specific plan of action for approaching coaching situations will be presented and used as part of the activities. This program helps managers understand behavior and what interests different people and leads to their commitment. By knowing what really excites employees, managers can help them perform to their maximum.

The program is being offered through Rensselaer’s Centers for Professional Development (RCPD). Rensselaer works directly with companies to design and deliver programs that provide their employees with the critical skills they need to be successful in today’s dynamic work environment. Through the combination of Rensselaer’s research strengths and faculty expertise, the RCPD is able to offer companies a diverse and unique selection of premier technical and professional development programs.
