Rensselaer at Hartford Presents Outstanding Student Awards During Forty-Eighth Commencement Exercises

HARTFORD , CONN – Three Rensselaer students from the 324 graduates of the Class of 2004-2005 were recognized with special awards during the Forty-Eighth Commencement Exercises at Rensselaer 's Hartford Campus on Saturday, June 4. The Hartford Chapter of the Rensselaer Alumni Association presented its annual Outstanding Student Awards to students from each of the three academic disciplines at Rensselaer at Hartford . Faculty members submitted nominations for the awards based on graduating students who had distinguished themselves from their peers through superior academic achievement, demonstrated leadership skills, works published, and contributions to Rensselaer .

The Outstanding Student Award for Computer Science from the Department of Engineering and Science was presented to John J. Anthony, of Norwich . He graduated with an M.S. in Computer Science, achieving a 3.8 G.P.A. Anthony is Lead Architect for the Property & Casualty Innovation Lab at The Hartford where he interfaces with chief information officers from the company communicating and implementing new ideas for the enterprise.

The Outstanding Student Award for Engineering also from the Department of Engineering and Science was presented to Todd M. Gustafson, of West Hartford . He graduated with an M.S. in Electrical Engineering, obtaining a 4.0 G.P.A. Gustafson is currently employed at Respironics, Inc., as a Senior Software Engineer working on projects such as critical software user interfaces and clinical data collection.

The Outstanding Student Award for Management from the Lally School of Management and Technology was presented to Kelly S. Magnuson, of Niantic. She graduated with an M.B.A., completing her studies with a 4.0 G.P.A. Magnuson is currently Associate Director at Pfizer Global Research and Development.

John P. Casey, President, General Dynamics Electric Boat, delivered the Commencement Address. The Honorable Shirley Ann Jackson, President, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, presided over the ceremony.
