Rensselaer at Hartford Announces Computer Science Conference Award Winner, John J. Anthony

HARTFORD , CONN – John J. Anthony, of Norwich , swept the awards at the 21st Annual Rensselaer at Hartford Computer Science Conference held April 16. The conference serves as a culminating experience for students to complete their master's degrees. Anthony was presented with the awards for “Most Original Paper” and “Most Outstanding Presentation” for his work entitled, “The Cost of Reliability: A Comparison of Reliable and Unreliable Web Service Messaging.”

Anthony will be recognized when he graduates with an M.S. in Computer Science at Rensselaer at Hartford 's Forty-Eighth Commencement Exercises on June 4. He currently leads an innovation laboratory for The Hartford's Property and Casualty (P&C) division. The laboratory delivers innovative technologies to the P&C line of businesses that result in new efficiencies and capabilities.

Fifty other students also presented papers at this year's conference and were commended for their research contributions . Anthony was nominated for the award for “Most Original Paper” by the faculty based on work that is novel, new, creative, extraordinary, or provides original insight in extending the body of knowledge; and he was then selected by conference attendees. He won the award for “Most Outstanding Presentation” after being nominated and selected by conference attendees with the criteria of best technical presentation.

Anthony stated, “My studies at Rensselaer have provided me with the knowledge and discipline to participate in an IT innovation lab in a Fortune 100 company. Core classes equipped me with important foundational knowledge that is a prerequisite to participating within the IT industry. Advanced classes provided me with the knowledge and experience to architect and deliver several large scale projects within our organization. These experiences were key in leading me to my current position within The Hartford's P&C Innovation Lab.”
