John P. Casey, President, General Dynamics Electric Boat, to Deliver Commencement Address at the Rensselaer Hartford Campus 48th Commencement Exercises

EVENT:  John P. Casey, President, General Dynamics Electric Boat, will address the 324 graduates, their families and friends, and members of Rensselaer’s faculty and staff at the Forty-Eighth Commencement Exercises at the Hartford campus of Rensselaer. Special awards to be presented include the Outstanding Student Awards and the Computer Science Seminar Conference Awards. The Honorable Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, will preside over the ceremony.

ABOUT THE COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER:  John P. Casey became President of General Dynamics Electric Boat on October 1, 2003. He assumed his current position after serving as Vice President - Operations, with responsibility for all construction activities at the Groton shipyard and the Quonset Point, Rhode Island, Facility. Currently, Mr. Casey is serving as Chairman of the American Shipbuilding Association and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Business and Industry Association. A graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Mr. Casey also holds an M.B.A. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. in Management from MIT’s Alfred Sloan Fellows Program.

INTERESTING STATISTICS FROM THIS YEAR’S GRADUATING CLASS:  Among the members of the outstanding Class of 2004-2005 are 22 students receiving their second advanced degrees from Rensselaer; one student is receiving her third master’s degree; three married couples, with each husband and wife receiving a master’s; and two fathers will graduate with their sons.
