Second Issue of Rensselaer Journal of Management & Technology Published

HARTFORD , CONN – The faculty of the Hartford Department of the Lally School of Management and Technology, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, have published the second issue of their new journal. The Rensselaer Journal of Management and Technology, Volume I, Number 2, June 2005, has been published and was distributed at a free leadership seminar last month, sponsored by the Lally School. The Journal will be available as part of Rensselaer's ongoing Leadership Seminar Series.

The second issue of the Journal focuses on “Applying Lean Where You Least Expect It: Marketing, R&D, and Administrative Services.” David L. Rainey, Ph.D., professor of management and the Chair of the Hartford Department of the Lally School of Management and Technology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, serves as editor of the Journal. The managing editor is Richard R. Paton, Director of Marketing and Business Development, Education for Working Professionals, Rensselaer.

In his introductory comments, “Leading Change through Lean Business Thinking,” Dr. Rainey states, “Lean business thinking embodies philosophical, theoretical, and practical concepts and mechanisms to reinvent and reinvigorate the corporation and its organizational structure through integration, innovation, and leadership.” “Leaders can improve Lean business thinking and achieve sustainable success through people by having a mindset that focuses on three key perspectives: respect, recognition, and reward,” he says.

Contributing authors and their featured articles in the June issue of the Journal include John Maleyeff, Ph.D., “Report from the Field: An Exploratory Analysis of Service Systems Using Lean Principles;” Martha C. Fransson, M.B.A., “Lean and the Marketing Process;” and Edward D. Arnheiter, Ph.D., “A Case Study: Lean and R&D at Henkel Loctite.” Maleyeff and Fransson are associate professors, and Dr. Arnheiter is an assistant professor in the Hartford Department of the Lally School of Management and Technology at Rensselaer.
