Foard Named Executive Director, Leadership Development Center

HARTFORD, CONN – Thomas A. Foard, Ph.D., was appointed Executive Director of the Leadership Development Center within Rensselaer at Hartford’s Centers for Professional Development. He brings to the role considerable experience with the administration and development of leadership programs, including those offered under license from the Center for Creative Leadership. His primary goals in this position will be to work cooperatively with organizations in the region to grow and develop the leadership offerings at Rensselaer.

Dr. Foard was most recently the Executive Director of the Niagara Institute located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada, a non-profit leadership training and development organization. During his tenure, that organization doubled its revenue from leadership programs and became a preferred provider of custom leadership and organizational development programs to a broad spectrum of client organizations. Further, Dr. Foard brings hands-on experience from positions in leadership roles in human resources at Rio Algom Ltd. and Com Dev Ltd. in Canada. As an organizational psychologist, Dr. Foard has also provided direct service to many organizations as a consultant and executive coach. He holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Louisville.

Rensselaer is a licensed Network Associate of the nationally recognized Center for Creative Leadership. Through the licensing arrangement, Rensselaer offers two separate leadership programs designed to assess the leadership qualities of emerging leaders/managers and senior-level managers. The programs offered are:

  • Foundations of Leadership – Examines the dynamics of leadership as it relates to influence, conflict management, and goal setting. For emerging leaders and managers with 3-5 years of experience.
  • Leadership Development Program (LDP)® – Focuses on enhancing individual leadership capacities as part of a learning process based on self-awareness. For experienced upper-middle to senior-level managers with strategic responsibilities.
