News Rensselaer Groton Site at Trails Corner Professional Center Expands and Acquires Additional Distance Education TechnologyHARTFORD, CONN – The Groton Site of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, located at the Trails Corner Professional Center on Poquonnock Road in Groton, launched the Fall 2004 term with more room and increased technological capabilities. Rensselaer acquired four additional rooms in the facility to provide a new administrative office, a faculty office/meeting room, a virtual library, and a telecommunications/server room. Rensselaer also increased its distance education technology at the Groton Site. Two classrooms were outfitted for both “send and receive” distance education programs that include new podiums with computers and projectors. A third classroom that was previously only a “receiving” distance education room was upgraded to also be able to “send” interactive video, and now has a computer installed in the podium. This new technology enables course origination to take place at the Groton Site. The new rooms allowed the existing student break area to be moved to a more spacious room and thereby freed up an additional classroom. In addition to the new rooms, several new amenities were provided. The virtual library houses two PCs and a Sun workstation with Cole Library database access and research capabilities. The student break room has new features: furniture, two microwaves, a refrigerator, and a beverage vending machine. Rensselaer has been serving students and corporations in southeastern Connecticut since 1977. Courses leading to the Master of Business Administration; Master of Science in Management or Computer Science; Master of Science or Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering; and Master of Engineering in Computer and Systems Engineering or Engineering Science are offered at the Rensselaer Groton Site.# # # |
