Rensselaer Alumnus Receives 2003 United Way Circle of Life Award

HARTFORD, CONN – Paul N. Kuehn, of Hamden, recently received the Wendi A. Mahan Circle of Life Award for 2003 from the United Way of the Capital Area. The award is presented to a current loaned executive who most sincerely and consistently exhibits characteristics such as enthusiasm, determination, compassion, team-building, thoughtfulness, and the ability to foster goodwill among colleagues and contributors. Kuehn, a Customer Relations Team Leader, was "on loan" from Northeast Utilities to assist with the 2003 United Way Community Campaign in the Capital Area.

Kuehn is a Rensselaer alumnus having earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering at the Troy campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1983, and an M.B.A. from the branch campus at Rensselaer at Hartford in 1988. Upon receipt of the United Way award as a loaned executive, Kuehn commented, "This has been one of the highlights of my career and I hope to use the skills I’ve developed here in the future, helping others in our community."

The award is given in memory of Wendi A. Mahan, who served as a loaned executive from Shawmut Bank during the 1994 Capital Area fundraising campaign. Upon her death in April 1997 as a result of an automobile accident, her fellow loaned executives from the 1994 campaign instituted the Circle of Life Award in her memory.
