Rensselaer at Hartford Professor
Wins Toastmasters’ Award

Toastmasters International President Gavin Blakely (left) presents the Presidential Citation award to Roger H. Brown, Assistant Professor, Department of Engineering and Science, Rensselaer at Hartford, for his contributions to the organization's program of communication and leadership.

HARTFORD, CONN – Roger H. Brown, DTM, Assistant Professor, Department of Engineering and Science, Rensselaer at Hartford, received a Presidential Citation, an award in recognition of outstanding achievements toward the goals and ideals of Toastmasters International. It is one of Toastmasters’ highest honors and recognizes contributions to its program of communication and leadership. The award was presented by Toastmasters International President Gavin Blakely, DTM, at the 72nd Annual Convention and Hall of Fame Pageant held in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 22.

According to the Convention program, "Each year Toastmasters International recognizes with a special award those members whose dedication and service to the organization have helped it to grow and achieve. These members’ contributions at the club, district, and international levels have helped to maintain our organization’s reputation as the world leader in communication and leadership training." In honoring Brown, Toastmasters International noted, "Roger is a committed and dedicated leader, mentoring many district governors in the past 25 years. Roger has held numerous club and district positions, was a Distinguished District governor, and has earned other district awards." He is currently a member of the West Hartford Toastmasters Club and the Greater Hartford Toastmasters Club, which holds its meetings at Rensselaer at Hartford.

Professor Brown (www.ewp.rpi.edu/hartford/~rhb/) has ten years of industrial experience and twenty-one years experience teaching computer science and computer engineering courses. His current academic and professional areas of interest include: communication and local area and wide-area networks; network management, security, performance models, and network simulations; and advanced computer hardware architectures.
