Rensselaer at Hartford Professor Wins Best Instructor Award

HARTFORD, CONN – Lynn A. DeNoia, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Engineering and Science, Rensselaer at Hartford, and a colleague won the "2002 Best Instructors Award" for their tutorial "Principles of Effective IT Management" at NetWorld+Interop, the premier network education conference and trade show. The tutorial was presented at the 2002 NetWorld+Interop conference in Atlanta in September, and the award was announced and presented at the 2003 NetWorld+Interop conference in Las Vegas in May. Professor DeNoia has led tutorials and workshops for the past several years at NetWorld+Interop (www.interop.com). She teaches this highly-rated information in her Rensselaer course Strategic IS Management, and keeps course materials current and directly relevant to the interests of students.

In addition to the typical vendor exhibit floor, NetWorld+Interop is especially well-known for its extensive educational and conference programming. Attendees range from IT staff to network managers to CIOs. Each tutorial and workshop and conference session is rated by attendees. At a special VIP dinner during each conference, there is an award for the instructor(s) who received the highest rating among the tutorials and workshops at the previous conference. Given that many of the instructors have been teaching at NetWorld+Interop for over ten years, DeNoia’s recognition is quite prestigious. She and her colleague were also invited to prepare a select version of the tutorial for a different audience at the COMDEX conference to be held in Las Vegas this November.

Dr. DeNoia’s (www.ewp.rpi.edu/hartford/~denoial/) areas of expertise include computer networking technology, effective IT organizations, and network and systems management. She has over thirty years of experience, having worked in numerous positions as a consultant, CIO, and technology specialist. Her current focus is on assisting IT organizations to become more effective and to increase their success in meeting business objectives.
