Rensselaer at Hartford’s Computer Science Seminar Series Presents,
"Past, Present, and Future of Mobile Communications"

EVENT: Kourosh Parsa, Ph.D., founder and head of his own consulting firm, Parsa Wireless Communications, will present a seminar titled, "Past, Present, and Future of Mobile Communications." The presentation is part of Rensselaer at Hartford’s Computer Science Seminar Series.

TOPIC DISCUSSION: The presentation will begin with an overview of mobile technologies, mobile services, and applications in 2.5G, 3G, and Wireless LAN spaces. The talk will then touch on the areas of innovations in the mobile communications field and focus on mobile data as well as the latest mobile terminals in the market. Competing technologies such as CDMA2000-GPRS-EDGE-WCDMA and WLAN will be compared to set the stage for discussion of the next generation of mobile systems.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Dr. Parsa has been involved in the wireless field over the past fifteen years, and with Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) activities for the past four years. He was the originator, co-inventor, and the key contributor to the design and specification of GBT's Common Packet Channel (CPCH) technology in the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS). Dr. Parsa was one of the architects of the Wideband Packet CDMA Radio Transmission Technology (RTT), which was jointly submitted to the International Telecommunication Union in January 2000 by American standards bodies TR46.1 and T1P1.5. He led the merger of WP-CDMA and W-CDMA on behalf of T1P1.5 and TR46.1. He has published more than thirty papers on W-CDMA capacity optimization and wireless data.
