PLANNING AHEAD |
|
Begin as early as possible to select a topic and gather information sources. You may need to use Interlibrary Loan to obtain materials from other libraries (a service that takes approximately 7-10 days). You may need to wait for books to be returned by other students. If a book you need is checked out to another student, then you may ask library staff to place a hold on the book for you. We will then contact you when the book is returned. For more help selecting a topic see Choosing Your Topic.
Keep a record of your work. Write out full citations including authors, titles, publishers and dates. Write, print or bookmark URLs of Internet resources you may use in your research. This will make footnotes, bibliographies or rechecking information much easier. For more assistance in writing your bibliography or list of references see Citing Print Resources and Citing Electronic & Web Resources. Check to see if a Subject Guide has been developed that will provide guidance for your research. If you are studying a particular industry be sure to check for a Industry Data Finder on your industry. For more general help in finding and evaluating sources of information, see Locating Sources of Information, Evaluating Print Resources and Evaluating Web Sites. You may wish to conduct an interview with a company contact or an expert at a government agency, association or special interest group. See Using Referrals for more assistance. Contact the Library Reference Staff through e-mail at or at 860-548-2490 or 800-433-4723 ext. 2490 if you have any questions. Individual students or project teams may wish to schedule an uninterrupted period of time with one of our Reference Librarians to discuss research strategy and review pertinent resources. Call or e-mail to schedule your appointment. Other research strategy guides: |
