Authority The site is published by any of the following:
  • national or international organizations (generally .org)
  • academic institutions (generally .edu)
  • government organizations (generally .gov)
  • commercial organizations (generally .com) with established reputations
Accuracy The site is objective, correct, documented and verifiable. Any bias is evident and does not detract value from the site.
Relevance The site relates to Rensselaer's curriculum or anticipates changes in the curriculum.
Audience Level The site is appropriate to a Master's level degree and Rensselaer's unique set of students.
Currency The site contains up to date information and links.
Coverage The site provides a sufficient amount of information, such as full text articles, reports, executive summaries, statistical data, and abstracts.
Cost The site does not require any usage fees. It features simple registration and use policies.
Ease of Use and Access The site features a clear organization and structure. Its design makes it easy to navigate. The information can be printed or easily captured. The site provides for a quick connection and infrequent downtime.

  • Knowledgable and respected in the field?
  • Cited in other sources?
  • Associated with a university or other reputable organization?

Timeliness

  • When was the information published?
  • Check for newer editions or more recent articles on the topic. Research in technology areas can change very rapidly.
  • In some disciplines, a book or article that is a year old can be out of date.
