SETTING UP ALERTS |
|
Alert services are a means of getting information to come to you rather than having to remember to go look for it. You can set up alerts to inform you when a new issue of a journal is published, or when a database has new results for a search that you're monitoring. Database vendors that offer alerts will have a link for Alerts, a Personal Account, or a "My" section. Look in these places or in Help for the database to find out the procedure for registering and managing alerts. There is usually a short registration form that asks for the e-mail address where you want to receive the alerts, some identifying information about yourself, and a password. Here is a selection of Rensselaer databases that offer alerts:
Once you set up alerts, keep track of the username or e-mail address and password you've used. Only the database vendor (not the library) can track or troubleshoot these logins. The alert services will send e-mails with citation lists or journal tables of contents. If you're reading the e-mail from outside the Hartford or Groton campuses, direct links into the databases will not work. Due to proxy server authentication procedures, it will be necessary to enter the database through the Cole Library website and browse to or search for the articles of interest.
