STANDARD INDUSTRIAL CLASSIFICATION (SIC) When using many databases and reference sources it is useful to know the SIC code for the industry you are studying. SIC codes for these industries include the following:

• SIC 4832 Radio Broadcasting Stations
• SIC 4833 Television Broadcasting Stations
• SIC 7812 Motion Picture and Video Tape Production

This is not a complete list of codes for these industries, merely a sample. See the SIC MANUAL for additional codes, also in the Cole Library at REF HF 1042 .A55.

NORTH AMERICAN INDUSTRY CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (NAICS)

The SIC system has recently been replaced by the NAICS. Only a few sources are now using these codes, but more will be making the switch in the near future. NAICS codes for these industries include the following:

• NAICS 512240 Sound Recording Studios
• NAICS 512110 Motion Picture and Video Production
• NAICS 513120 Television Broadcasting
• NAICS 513210 Cable Networks
• NAICS 513111 Radio Networks

These are samples, not complete lists, of SIC and NAICS codes for these industries. Use the following sources to identify additional SIC and NAICS codes for your company or industry.

• 1997 NAICS and 1987 SIC Correspondence Tables
  Match SIC codes with NAICS codes, or match NAICS codes with SIC codes.

  Match 2002 and 1997 NAICS codes in both directions.

Obtain a substantial overview (about 30 pages), statistics and outlook for the industry. Includes a comparative analysis of statistics for the industry's major players.
