STANDARD INDUSTRIAL CLASSIFICATION (SIC)
When using many databases and reference sources it is useful to know the SIC code for the industry you are studying. SIC codes for these industries include the following:

• SIC 20 Food and Kindred Products
• SIC 21 Tobacco Products
• SIC 2024 Ice Cream
• SIC 2082 Malt Beverages
• SIC 2086 Bottled and Canned Soft Drinks and Carbonated Water
• SIC 2096 Potato Chips and Similar Snacks
• SIC 2111 Cigarettes

NORTH AMERICAN INDUSTRY CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (NAICS)

The SIC system has recently been replaced by the NAICS. Only a few sources are now using these codes, but more will be making the switch in the near future. NAICS codes for these industries include the following:

• NAICS 311 Food Manufacturing
• NAICS 312 Beverage and Tobacco Product Manufacturing
• NAICS 311520 Ice Cream and Frozen Desert Manufacturing
• NAICS 312120 Breweries
• NAICS 312111 Soft Drink Manufacturing

• NAICS 312221 Cigarette Manufacturing
