Many databases and reference sources are organized by SIC and NAICS codes, so you will need these codes for your research. The codes classify companies and industries by their primary line of business.

Standard Industrial Classification (SIC)
SIC codes for aerospace and defense industries include the following:

• SIC 3721 Aircraft
• SIC 3724 Aircraft Engines & Engine Parts
• SIC 3728 Aircraft Equipment & Parts
• SIC 3761 Guided Missiles & Space Vehicles & Parts

North American Industry Classification System (NAICS)
The NAICS system is replacing the SIC system. Though most databases and reference sources are still using SIC codes, many are, or will soon be, beginning the switch to the NAICS system. NAICS codes for aerospace and defense industries include the following:

Access financial and market/traffic statistical economic data on individual airlines and the air transportation industry.
