SIC & NAICS Codes

Many databases and reference sources are organized by SIC and NAICS codes, so you will need these codes for your research. The codes classify companies and industries by their primary line of business.

Standard Industrial Classification (SIC)
SIC codes for aerospace and defense industries include the following:

  • SIC 3721 Aircraft
  • SIC 3724 Aircraft Engines & Engine Parts
  • SIC 3728 Aircraft Equipment & Parts
  • SIC 3761 Guided Missiles & Space Vehicles & Parts
  • SIC 3764 Guided Missile & Space Vehicle Propulsion Units & Parts
  • SIC 3769 Guided Missile & Space Vehicle Launch Parts & Auxiliary Equipment Not Elsewhere Classified

North American Industry Classification System (NAICS)
The NAICS system is replacing the SIC system. Though most databases and reference sources are still using SIC codes, many are, or will soon be, beginning the switch to the NAICS system. NAICS codes for aerospace and defense industries include the following:

  • NAICS 336411 Aircraft Manufacturing
  • NAICS 336412 Aircraft Engine and Engine Parts Manufacturing
  • NAICS 336413 Other Aircraft Parts and Auxiliary Equipment Manufacturing
  • NAICS 336414 Guided Missile and Space Vehicle Manufacturing
  • NAICS 336415 Guided Missile and Space Vehicle Propulsion Unit and Propulsion Unit Parts Manufacturing
  • NAICS 336419 Other Guided Missile and Space Vehicle Parts and Auxiliary Equipment Manufacturing

These are samples, not complete lists, of SIC and NAICS codes for these industries. Use the following sources to identify additional SIC and NAICS codes for your company or industry.
