I am being prompted for a login ID and password.
What is this?
In order to access the subscription databases on the Cole Library's
Databases page you will need to enter your Rensselaer
at Hartford login ID and password.
This login ID and password corresponds to a Rensselaer at Hartford
network account. These accounts are assigned and maintained by Rensselaer
at Hartford's Technical & Information
Services (TIS) Department, not the library.
Contact TIS at helpdesk@rh.edu
or by phone at (860) 548-2400 x3520 or (800) 433-4723 x3520 if you
have any questions about your login ID and password.
Help! My password isn't being accepted. Who do I
call?
Contact Rensselaer at Hartford's Technical
& Information Services (TIS) department. You can reach TIS
by phone at (860) 548-2400 x3520 or (800) 433-4723 x3520 or by e-mail
to helpdesk@rh.edu.
Though library staff can provide some information about your network
account we are not able to check the status of your account, we cannot
reset your account, nor can we fix problems. Therefore, we encourage
you to contact TIS.
Why do I have to enter a login ID and password? Isn't
this just an extra step?
We understand that it may feel like an extra step. The Cole Library's
subscription databases are available only to current Rensselaer at
Hartford students, faculty and staff. When you enter your Rensselaer
at Hartford login ID and password you are authenticated as a valid
user.
After you have successfully entered your own login ID and password,
you are able to view information about each of our subscription databases,
including additional passwords you may need know in order to take
full advantage their services.
How do I obtain a login ID and password if I don't
have one?
Rensselaer at Hartford network accounts are available to current
Rensselaer students, faculty and staff.
If you are a registered student at Rensselaer at Hartford, then you
probably already have a network account. These accounts are assigned
automatically upon registration using a default login ID and password.
Contact TIS at (860) 548-2400
x3520 or (800) 433-4723 x3520 or by e-mail to helpdesk@rh.edu
for more information.
What is the default login ID and password?
TIS establishes each network
account with a default login ID and password. For security reasons
we cannot provide this information over the web.
Contact TIS at (860) 548-2400
x3520 or (800) 433-4723 x3520 or by e-mail to helpdesk@rh.edu
for information on your network account.
See also the NETWORK USER'S GUIDE published each semester by TIS
and available on levels 1, 2 and 5 in the Hartford building and in
the computer lab area on the Groton campus.
Are there any other passwords I should know about?
A few of the subscription databases listed on the Databases
page require additional passwords. Select the database you wish to
search from the Databases page. Enter your Rensselaer
at Hartford login ID and password at the prompts. You will then link
to a page of information specific to the database you have chosen.
Read the information on this page carefully before proceeding. Any
additional passwords will be provided right there.
In other words, if you have a valid Rensselaer at Hartford login
ID and password (which all current students do), then you will be
able to view the passwords you need, when you need them.
What do you mean by "remote access?"
By "remote access" we mean any access not taking place
within the Rensselaer at Hartford building (or the Groton campus).
If you are using our databases from your home or office, then you
are using remote access.
How do I use the proxy server for remote access?
See the remote access proxy
server page for complete information.
- Why are some databases available only in the
Rensselaer at Hartford building?
-
We understand that most Rensselaer at Hartford students do not wish
to make extra trips to the Rensselaer building to do research for
their projects. We have tried to negotiate a contract with each of
our database vendors that allows for remote access. Unfortunately,
some vendors remain quite inflexible on this issue.
We continue to work with database vendors, Rensselaer at Hartford's
Technical & Information Services Department (TIS) and the Troy
campus to establish a solution.
- I can't seem to find what I am looking for when I
use the library's online databases. What help is available?
-
The Cole Library's reference staff would be happy to help you, whether
it is in person, over the telephone or by e-mail. We can be reached
by telephone at (860) 548-2490 or (800) 433-4723 x2490. E-mail us
at lib-info@rh.edu.
In addition, many of our subscription databases offer substantial
online help. Some have telephone hotlines which will provide search
assistance and other advice. You should not hesitate to take advantage
of these services.
- Can I search the Cole Library's catalog on the
web?
-
Yes, select Catalogs from the library's
home page. Rensselaer
Libraries' Catalog includes the collections of the Cole Library
and the libraries on the Troy campus.
- How do I check if a particular journal or magazine
is in your collection?
-
Check our Full-Text Journals A-Z,
available online, or the Rensselaer Libraries' Catalog.
- How do I find a conference proceedings?
-
If you wish to obtain a copy of a particular conference paper, or
the proceedings of a particular conference, then follow these steps:
- Check Rensselaer
Libraries' Catalog to see if we own the proceedings of the conference
you need. Use key words from the conference title. If possible,
avoid common words such as "International," "Proceedings,"
"Conference," "Symposium," or "Annual."
- You may wish to consult with a Reference Librarian if you have
questions about a particular conference. Contact us through e-mail
at lib-info@rh.edu.
- If the Cole Library does not own the proceedings that you need,
then you may submit an Interlibrary Loan request. See http://illiad.lib.rpi.edu/illiad/GHG/logon.html.
- May I use my public library card in the Cole Library?
-
Sorry, no. Ask about interlibrary loan services at your local public
library. Through interlibrary loan, your public library will be able
to borrow books from our collection.
- I am not affiliated with Rensselaer at Hartford.
May I borrow books from the Cole Library?
-
The Cole Library issues Guest Borrowing cards to Connecticut Quality Council members and their affiliates only.
Other than Rensselaer at Hartford students, faculty and staff, only
those individuals eligible for a Guest Borrowing card may borrow Cole
Library materials. Other individuals should inquire about interlibrary
loan services at their local or corporate library.

Friday 10:00 AM - 8:30 PM
