Education for Working Professionals
(EWP)
EWP is one of Rensselaer's core enterprises encompassing
a range of programs designed specifically for current and
future workforce leaders. These high-end, customized, degree,
certificate and professional development programs flow from
Rensselaer's research strengths and unique academic programs.
Distributed Education and Multimedia
(DEM)
DEM is a service organization that enables Rensselaer’s
EWP faculty to deliver their world-class educational programs
to students on the Troy, Hartford and Groton campuses in addition
to our corporate, government and innovative professional partners
who impact society and technology around the nation and the
world. DEM is dedicated to providing highly interactive learning
environments for students seeking high-level knowledge while
honing their analytical capabilities, leadership skills and
innovative thinking, thereby becoming architects of their futures.
With dramatic rates of change, working professionals
expect and demand an academic environment that fits the evolving
needs of their fast-paced world. DEM's dedicated and knowledgeable
staff develops and integrates innovative technology based
solutions to instructional needs thus delivering reliable
and sustainable high-value products through the understanding
and application of multimedia technology and distributed education
methodologies.
DEM is organized to provide a client centered
approach to technology services through the use of the Producer
model. This model assigns one staff Producer as a main point
of contact providing design production and technical expertise
for each event. Your Producer will also coordinate expert
assistance as your project demands. These projects can include
classes, workshops, satellite downlinks, video conferences
and meetings.
The staff of DEM represents many creative
and technical disciplines. We have a range of producers, designers
and technicians who bring a deep understanding of technology
to our offerings and bring a variety of professional experience,
from both inside and outside the university, to your project.
DEM formed in August 1995. Its formation
was sparked by the need to incorporate complementary functions
into one organization. These included Distributed Education,
Audio/Visual Services, classroom and auditorium technology,
the emerging area of Multimedia design and production functions.
Although over the last decade the acronyms have changed, our
collective experience has enabled us to continue to provide
professional services that enable the use of technology for
teaching and learning at Rensselaer.
