Effective Fall 2004

To receive the Master of Science degree in Computer Science, students must earn a minimum of 30 credit hours in Computer & Information Science or approved courses. A Student's Plan of Study will include:

IMMIGRATION COURSES
Depending on academic background and professional experience, some MS degree seeking students may be required to begin their studies with one or more of the following prerequisite immigration courses:

  • CISH-4010 Discrete Mathematics
  • CISH-4020 Object Structures
  • CISH-4030 Structured Computer Architecture
Immigration courses do not apply toward the minimum of 30 credit hours required.

CISH-4210 Operating Systems (3 credits)

CIS REQUIRED COURSES (9 credits)
CISH-4380 Database Systems
ECSE-4670 Computer Communication Networks (3 credits) ECSE-6770 Software Engineering I

CIS ELECTIVES (9 credits)
Select CIS electives totaling up to 9 credits, with approval of advisor, AND such that at least 18 credits of the MS Plan of Study are at the advanced graduate level (ECSE-6xxx, ECSE-7xxx, CISH-6xxx, CSCI-6xxx, or CSCI-7xx). Most electives are 3-credits, however, 1-credit special topic electives, CSCI-6961 or CISH-6960x, (5 weeks) are offered frequently. Students may take up to three 1-credit electives.

CSCI-6980 or CISH-6990 Computer Science Project ( 3 credits) or Thesis (6 credits)

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS
( 4 Courses )

CIS Graduate Certificate Programs are designed with a selective focus and require that a student successfully complete four graduate courses (12 credits) in a specific area of Computer & Information Science. Credits earned in Graduate Certificates may be subsequently applied toward an M.S. degree as electives with advisor's approval.

Additional technical information about the CIS Graduate Certificates can be obtained from each Certificate Program Coordinator.
